How we extract NCS color from image?

The process of selecting the closest NCS color for any given image involves several steps:

  1. Convert RGB to Lab Color Space: We start by converting the RGB-based HEX colors in your image to the Lab color space using a digital color conversion library.
  2. Calculate Delta E Distance: Using computer algorithms, we find the closest NCS color in terms of delta E distance in the LRV (Light Reflectance Value) color space. Delta E measures the difference between two colors, ensuring we get the closest match.
  3. Select the Closest NCS Color: The NCS color with the smallest delta E distance is selected as the closest match to your original color.

While this process is quite accurate, especially for colors well-represented in the NCS system, there are some limitations:

  • The NCS system may not have an exact match for every possible color in the Lab color space, so the closest available NCS color may not always be an ideal match.
  • The accuracy of the color conversion and delta E calculation can depend on factors like image quality and lighting conditions when the color was captured.
  • This approach provides a solid starting point for selecting an NCS color close to your given color, but some manual adjustments might still be necessary, particularly when exact color accuracy is crucial.
